PLS Chicago stands for Polonijna Liga Siatkowki w Chicago (transl. Polish Volleyball League in Chicago)
PLS Chicago promotes sport as well as fair-play competition as a way of spending your leisure time. We believe in our league having a positive influence on all participants as well as Polish-American community in Chicago. Volleyball tournaments are played during a winter season at the Community Center in Franklin Park. During tournaments we are using a professional net set at the height of 2.43 m. Teams, consisting of six players, can be all-male, all-female, or coed. Tournaments are officiated by a group of experienced referees recognized by PLS Chicago.
We started preparations for our first season in July 2005. Since then, we have successfully completed two volleyball seasons. Currently, we are celebrating our third season with10 teams competing for the championship. Continuous popularity of PLS is assuring that the league will remain an annual event, while spontaneous and vivid reactions of fans and players are a signal for us to work harder to make this league even better.
Our experience tells us that there is a vast group of volleyball fans in the Chicago-land area. We established this league for them. We hope that our league will attract numerous male and female players, who have played volleyball before, as well as individuals who are not yet familiar with this sport. Most people, including this league’s founders, have never played volleyball professionally. However, we have experienced and fell in love with this amazing team sport. We hope you will too!
We would like to encourage young people and students to actively participate in sports. It is a known fact that sports and healthy lifestyle are not particularly popular and obesity has became a nation-wide problem. We hope that PLS Chicago will have its share in promoting active and healthy life styles.
